Mikhail Markianovich Germachev, Russian, French, 1868 to 1930, an Impressionist oil on board painting depicting a winter landscape. Signed lower left. Housed in a decorative gilt wood and gesso frame. With The Cooling Galleries, London label on verso. Note: Mikhail Markianovich Germachev was a Russian and French artist. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture from 1892 to 1899 under the guidance of A. E. Arkhipov, N. A. Kasatkin, I. I. Levitan, K. A. Savitsky and others. In 1897 Germachev was awarded the prize of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers named after N. S. Mazurin for his painting Snow, which later was bought by P. M. Tretyakov. In the early 1920s Germachev immigrated to Paris. He painted Russian landscapes under the order of Marchand Leon Gerard. He exhibited his works at the exhibitions in the gallery Gerard, at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts and the Federation of French Artists. Works by Mikhail Germachev are kept in many museums and private collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, Irkutsk Regional Art Museum named after V. P. Sukachev and others.
