An antique late 19th to early 20th-century French Limoges porcelain plaque executed in the pate-sur-pate technique. The blue and white piece represents Psyche, an Ancient Greek goddess of the soul usually represented as a young woman with butterfly wings. Pate-sur-pate, paste on paste, is a method of porcelain decoration in which a relief design is created on an unfired, unglazed colored body by applying successive layers of white porcelain slip with a brush.
