Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, Japanese, 1839 to 1892, an antique Oban tat e color woodblock print on paper, Moon over the Temple Season, from the series, One Hundred Views of the Moon, 1885. Fujiwara no Yoshitaka meditates on the grounds of Seson Temple near Tokyo. He was forced to leave Kyoto so as not to outshine his older brother. Fujiwara no Yoshitaka, 953 to 974, commander of the Heian fort, was an outstanding poet. His works were included in the collection 100 Poems from 100 Poets, compiled by the Daimyo Teika, 1162 to 1241. Signed and an artist red stamp, to the center left. Inscribed with Calligraphy upper right and lower left. Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was a Japanese printmaker. Yoshitoshi has widely been recognized as the last great master of the ukiyo e genre of woodblock printing and painting. He is also regarded as one of the forms greatest innovators.
