Hewitt R. Jackson, American, 1914 to 2007, an oil painting on canvas depicting a sailing ship breaking through the waves, signed by the artist lower right corner and additionally signed verso. Framed. Note: Known for his accurate ship drawings and paintings, down to the last detail, Hewitt Jackson was born in the Kirkland, Washington area in 1914. He went to sea at the young age of 12 years doing ciphering and sketching during his time off from school. He sailed the seven seas and during his wonder years, met prominent artists and authors including John Steinbeck and Norman Rockwell. His renderings of authentic early century sailing ships on Puget Sound show his love for historical accuracy and fine detail. His works are in many maritime collections including the Oregon Historical Society, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, Astoria, and the Washington State Historical Society. One of a kind artwork.
