An antique Ethiopian hand carved wooden headrest. The trapezoidal headrest is made from a single piece of wood. The headrest was made to serve as a utilitarian object to be used in everyday tribal life. An African tribal headrest in a light, wheat colored wood with incised geometric carvings from the Sidama People of Ethiopia. These headrests provide protection to the owner by elevating the head off the ground and avoiding bites from snakes or scorpions. Circa: early 20th century.
