A highly collectible graceful French 19th-century porcelain centerpiece attributed to Jacob Petite, French, 1797 to 1868. The bowl is of an elongated shape, the exterior features two hand painted medallions one depicts a grisaille image of a lady with a putto, the other depicts a floral arrangement. The interior is painted with floral motifs in the same style. Flanked by two handles. Covered with bright crimson glaze, decorated with relief grapes and vines and richly gilded. Has an incised mark to the bottom. Note: Jacob Petit, born Jacob Mordecai, was a well-known and celebrated French manufacturer of porcelain in the 19th Century. After studying drawing in the studio of Antoine-Jean Gros, a follower of Jacques-Louis David, Petit joined the famous Sevres Manufactory in 1822, where he painted porcelain wares.
