An exceptional antique German Jugendstil ink stand or pen tray with inkwell by Erhard and Sohne. The ink stand is of rectangular form, made of rosewood with elaborate brass inlays. The cylindrical inkwell with geometric foliate and lattice decoration is flanked by two trays with reticulated galleries, the central section with feather and rosette panel and two five section pen rests. Lion mark with the letter E on the bottom. Circa 1900. The famous German Erhard and Sohne company was established in 1844 in Germany and granted the world patent for the manufacture of brass inlay in 1904.
