An antique Japanese Meiji era Ukiyoe military woodblock print Chinese Troop Making Rout at the Great battle of Asan from the series The First Sino and Japanese War by Tatsugoro Nagashima. Such prints idealized the heroism of Japanese troops risking their lives for the emperor. Matted and framed. Circa 1868 to 1912. Tatsugoro Nagashima was a woodblock illustrator and printer who was working actively in Edo (modern Tokyo) from around 1850-1890. He is also known as Utagawa Yoshitora. Like Nagashima, sometimes artists would change their name according to the school they were with. He studied under Utagawa Kuniyoshi in the Utagawa school, and therefore later took that name as his own. He was known to excel in illustrating prints involving warriors, beautiful Japanese women, kabuki actors, and foreigners. Japanese UkiyoE Woodblock Prints, Asian Artworks, Home Decor.
