An ancient hand-built pottery female fertility idol, Near East, Northern Syria, Syro-Hittite, ca.1800 B.C. The idol most likely represents the goddess Astarte, modeled with a characteristically columnar-form body, arms held to the chest. The layered necklace and high hairdress are decorated with dozens of petite impressions. The idol has a bird-like face with large round eyes.
