Lot 0131: ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING AFTER PIETRO DELLA VECCHIA

41 reviews

An antique oil on canvas painting Warrior in Armour Drawing His Sword, after Pietro della Vecchia, Italian, 1605 to 1678. Finely detailed and beautifully painted following the tradition of Italian Renaissance masters. Inscribed upper right: Rembrandt 1637. Circa the early 19th century. Pietro della Vecchia followed the tradition of 16th-century Venetian painting and the Roman Baroque. His early works are deeply influenced by Carlo Saraceni and his student, which has led to the assumption that the painter may has initially been trained by them. After a possible short stay in Rome around 1621-22, he was active in the studio of Alessandro Varotari, called Padovanino, around 1625 and first familiarized with the masters of the Venetian Cinquecento, such as Titian and Giorgione. Renaissance Portrait Paintings, Classic European Fine Art And Wall Decor Collectibles.
