An extremely fine antique mid 19th century Russian cigarette case made of gilded silver and decorated with very delicate hand engraved and chased patterns depicting scrolled vines and grapes. The lid features an oval medallion engraved with the Cyrillic initials PP under the crown. Hallmarked with an 84 Russian Empire silver standard, the date 1851, George the Victorious for Moscow, and the Cyrillic makers initials FV for one of the most outstanding silversmiths of Russian Empire Verhovtsev Fedor Andreevich, active 1819-1867.
