An early 19th century Russian parcel-gilt silver sweetmeat basket, of an oval form, with lobed body, raised on one foot, well rounded with a gallery of flower garlands, featuring a folding handle with applied decoration depicting beautifully detailed floral motifs. On the bottom there is the makers mark of Elias Modig, 1795 to 1834, Saint Petersburg, Russia, an 84 silver standard and crossed anchors mark for St. Petersburg.
