Lot 0245: ANTIQUE 19TH C GERMAN MEISSEN PORCELAIN CANDELABRA

A pair of antique German Meissen porcelain two-light candelabra with figural gentleman and lady seated between trees, and wearing 18th century costume. The twin branched candelabra encrusted all over with polychrome painted flowers, terminating beneath original flower painted sconces accented with gilding. Originally modeled by Johann Joachim Kaendler, 1706 to 1775. Johann Joachim Kandler was a German sculptor who became the most important modeler of the Meissen porcelain manufactory, and arguably of all European porcelain. He worked at Meissen for over 40 years. Each candelabra is stamped with a crossed swords mark in underglaze blue, and features other impressed and incised markings. Circa 1870.
