Calligraphic rims. Canvas mat, golden frame. The Peacock Throne was a famous jewelled throne that was the seat of the emperors of the Mughal Empire in India. It was commissioned in the early 17th century by Emperor Shah Jahan. After the capture of Delhi by Nadir Shah in 1739, the throne was taken to Persia, where gold and precious stones were extracted from it to create the throne for the Qajar Feth Ali Shah and his followers.
