The School of Paris is a shorthand for several generations of an international community of artists who settled in Paris from the 1900s to the 1960s. Alexander Archipenko was an outstanding Ukrainian born, Russian, French, American avant garde artist and sculptor, one of the greatest masters of cubism. Alexander Archipenko used voids in his works in an original way and skillfully mixed different genres, and also created many works in the styles of realism and constructivism. Works like Geometric Statuette demonstrate his continuous exploration of the female form and its relation to space. Considered the first Cubist sculptor, Archipenko furthered his legacy of experimentation throughout his career, introducing sculptural collage and mixed media sculpture that integrated multicoloured glass, acrylic, and terra cotta into single objects he called sculpto paintings.
