Lot 0412: THE MAKING OF MANKIND CONCRETE BUST SCULPTURE ART

41 reviews

A 1980s cast concrete bust on a wooden stand created by American born artist Lisa Levitt as part of her Washington D.C. series, The Making Of Mankind. The item presented for auction is an example of the scarce and rare artwork production realized by a young and incredibly curious female american artist, active in the 1980s and currently based in Manhattan New York City. Levitt ran an underground career focused in sculptures of small formats, mostly executed with ephemeral materials with a short or critically perishable life span, paper pulp, straw and adobe. However, some pieces like the one for auction were conceived with concrete or clay. Nurturing her creative work on previous master artists like Esther Fuller or Fausto Tonello, the works of Lisa Levitt are desirable objects of art for contemporary art collectors.
