Antique patinated bronze sculpture, L Aviation, after the original sculpture by Emile Louis Picault, French, 1833 to 1915. This allegory of flight carries the French motto we have the wings to fly over mountains and valleys. A muscular semi-nude classical angel stands atop symbols of aviation including propellers, wings, and pistons, foreshadowing the future in this bronze statue. Mounted on a rectangular-shaped base. Signed, E. Picault, on the base. Titled on the front of the base. Emile Louis Picault is a French sculptor and medalist, a representative of symbolism in art. Author of historical works. He is best known for works depicting allegorical and patriotic subjects, and mythological heroes.
