A set of three WWII Nazi German shields including the Cholm Shield, the rarest of the German combat shields, was awarded to those who fought in the Cholm Pocket on the Eastern Front between 21 January and 5 May 1942. It was instituted on 1 July 1942 and ceased to be bestowed on 1 April 1943. The Crimea shield sleeve badge constructed of stamped sheet metal with a bronze finish and headed by the German eagle clutching a laurel wreath surrounding a swastika, flanked by the dates 1941 and 1942 on a backdrop of the Crimean peninsula, bearing the word KRIM, and the Budapest shield sleeve badge featuring a Nazi eagle with a swastika over a cityscape under bombing and the inscription BUDAPEST and the date 1944 45.
