An antique late 19th to early 20th century Russian Orthodox icon representing the Mother of God and Jesus Child. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Titled in Church Slavonic above, Recovery of the Dead or Seeking the Lost. The iconography of the image originated in the 17th century. The title refers to the prayer for the missing, in danger, and perished. Wooden frame. Religious Christian Collectibles, Russian Icons.
