Lot 0413: ANTIQUE JAPANESE ENAMEL VASE ATTR TO HAYASHI KODENJI

An antique Japanese, Meiji era, enamel Silver vase attributed to Hayashi Kodenji, Japanese, 1831 to 1915. Circa 1900s. The baluster form vase is enameled with polychrome image of gold sparrows in bamboo trees and blossoming flowers made in the Cloisonne technique on a dark blue ground. The base of the ware is adorned with a traditional Greek motif. Marked with an impressed mark, Silver, on the bottom. Hayashi Kodenji was a pivotal figure in the history of Cloisonne enamel manufacturer. He was instrumental in the formation and leadership of the Shippo cho enamellers guild, and it is probable that he worked for the Nagoya-based Shippo Kaisha. He exhibited and won prizes at many international exhibitions: Nuremberg 1885 Silver, Paris 1889 Silver, and St Louis 1904 Gold.
