Lot 0295: HEREND HVNGARY FATHER AND SON PORCELAIN FIGURE

41 reviews

A Hungarian hand made and hand painted porcelain figurine by Herend Hvngary. Circa: 1960s to 1980s. The sculpture depicts two mustachioed gentlemen in old fashioned traditional Hungarian clothing are bidding each other farewell with a handshake. The younger man, the son, has an outfit of white with a blue vest, and a full orange cloak flung over his shoulders. The elderly man, the father, wears a similarly cut cloak of pale yellow or cream which conceals his inner clothing. Both cloaks appear to be embellished with traditional embroidery. Both men wear hats. The sons cap is a dark bowler with a bright yellow decoration. In his left hand he carries a hefty waking stick. The hat of the elderly gentleman is peaked and also of a dark colour. Mounted on a sculptural base. Marked with a blue ink factory stamp, and numbered, 7, under the base. Herend is known for its long history of producing the finest hand painted porcelain worldwide. Herends trademark fishnet pattern design, which is most popular in the U.S., originated in 1858 when an artist intrigued with a Chinese plates fish scale design painted it onto a rooster figurines breast to imitate feathers. Each Herend figurine is handmade in Hungary. Vintage and Modern European Hand Made and Hand Painted Porcelain Figurines, Statues, Statuettes, Table and Desk Wares, Home Decor, and Collectibles.
