An antique Russian Orthodox icon of Holy Martyr Christopher. The mixed media icon with egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood panel. The icon is inscribed upper right and left. On the icon frontally, full length, Saint Christopher is depicted with the head of a predatory beast turned to the left. The saint tramples the lying devil with his feet. In the right hand of Christopher is a spear, in the left a sword and a round shield. The Saint is dressed in a red cloak, golden military armor, a dark green shirt, light green pants, and high boots on his feet. On the chest of the saint in a round radiant glory is the shoulder image of the Savior Emmanuel. The halos are marked with a red line. Two flying angels holding a golden crown decorated with pearls and stones above the saints head, on the upper field. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century.
