Signed and dated, lower right. Framed. Ferdinand Stoopendaal is known for Painting, illustration. Stoopendaal attended the Swedish Royal Academy of Fine Arts, located in Stockholm, from 1870 through 1878. There he joined a group of fellow students, including future painter and interior designer Carl Larsson, a future proponent of the arts and crafts movement in Sweden, who were opposed to new artistic trends, including impressionism. Stoopendaal was considered a talented student and before long opened his own studio in Stockholm. Stoopendaal was a member of a number of arts related groups during his lifetime, including Artists Association, the Artists Club of Stockholm, and the Swedish Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He exhibited his works at major institutions in Sweden during his lifetime, and he may have exhibited at least once in America, in Rochester, New York, at Rundels Gallery in 1898.
