An antique Japanese Sagemono tobacco smoking set, a pleated leather tobacco pouch with a bamboo kiseru pipe case attached via a cord. Meiji era, 1868 to 1912. The case is garnished with etched flowers and calligraphy. Sagemono is a 19th-century Japanese term for any kind of carrying container hung from ones belt or sash, such as a coin purse, tobacco pouch, or pillbox. The kiseru pipe and its accessories were hung from the owners obi sash, kept in place by the attached netsuke. A matching set showed the owners sense of style.
