An antique Japanese Butsudan, a carved wooden Buddhist altar box. Late Meiji era, before 1912. Miniature portable piece with a figurine of Avalokitesvara, a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. The shrine is lacquered on the outside and gilt inside. There is a suspension ring on the top. Collectible Oriental Buddhist Religious Items.
