An antique Japanese, Meiji era, enamel over brass vase. The vase has a sphere shaped body and a long narrow neck. The ware is enameled with polychrome figural medallions depicting Phoenix birds, butterflies, and blossoming flowers, surrounded by floral, foliage, and geometrical patterns made in the Cloisonne technique. The neck is adorned with floral, foliage, and cloud ornaments made in the same technique. The base features polychrome floral and scrollwork motifs made in the same technique. The ground of the vase is inlaid with Goldstone. Unmarked. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century.
