Lot 0335: JAPANESE MEIJI KOMAJIRO MANNER COVERED ENAMEL POT

An antique Japanese, late Meiji era, covered enamel over brass pot or box. The ware is made in the manner of Takahara Komajiro, the most well known and consistent maker of Kyoto jippo wares. The body of the ware is enameled with polychrome images of cranes, medallions with blossoming flowers and butterflies, surrounded by floral, cloud, scrollwork and Phoenix bird patterns made in the Cloisonne technique. The cover of the ware is adorned with a polychrome image of a dragon surrounded by cloud and geometrical motifs made in the same technique, and a figural finial made in a shape of a flower, engraved with detailed patterns. The ware features a pair of curved handles, enameled with polychrome floral, swirl, and geometrical ornaments made in the same technique. Mounted on four curved legs. The ware is decorated with polychrome floral and swirl motifs made in the Cloisonne technique. The ground is inlaid with a Goldstone. Unmarked. Circa: late 19th century.
