Lot 0231: RUSSIAN IMPERIAL PORCELAIN TAZZA BABIGON SERVICE

An antique Russian porcelain footed serving bowl or tazza from the Babigon service by the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory, Saint Petersburg. Period of Nicholas II, 1894 to 1917. White piece with borders of gilt ivy within alternating bands of gold and raspberry, the center is garnished with a gilt rosette. Blue Imperial cipher of Nicholas II on the bottom. Provenance: was a part of the group lot 122 sold at Christie's Auction 2693 RUSSIAN WORKS OF ART on April 15, 2013. The Babigon service was created in 1824 by the order of Emperor Alexander I. It was used by the royal family as a service for ceremonial receptions. The name Babigon first appeared around 1857 when the original royal service was transferred to the recently built Babigon pavilion near Peterhof.
