Richard N. Sussman, American, 1908 to 1971, a Modernist WPA manner watercolor painting on paper depicting a rural village landscape. Signed lower left. Framed. The WPA program made no distinction between representational and nonrepresentational art. Abstraction had not yet gained favor in the 1930s and 1940s, so was virtually unsalable. As a result, the Federal Art Project supported such iconic artists as Jackson Pollock before their work could earn them income. Richard Sussman is known for Painter, printmaker, designer. Born in Minneapolis, MN on June 25, 1908. Sussman studied at Minneapolis School of Art, ASL in NYC, and with Hans Hofmann and George Grosz. Collectible American Graphic Art, WPA Era. One of a kind artwork.
