A pair of antique Japanese Satsuma pottery vases. Late Meiji era, before 1912. Rounded pieces with short neck. The pieces are hand-painted with depictions of Japanese elders and officials and calligraphy. Garnished with gilding. Hieroglyohically marked on the bottom, Kinkozan Tsukuru. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
