An antique Japanese Satsuma pottery teapot. Taisho era, 1912 to 1926. Round piece with a gilt handle, spout and lid finial. The item is decorated with a depiction of Japanese women in traditional clothing against the architectural landscape background. Gilt accents. Fine detail work. Hallmark Sekizan with Shimazu family crest is on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
