The badge consists of a rectangular bar covered with a blue enamel field upon which is superimposed a Springfield Arsenal Musket, Model 1795. The composite device is superimposed to an elliptic silver tone metal oak-leaf wreath, symbolizing steadfast character, strength, and loyalty. The Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) is awarded to Army enlisted infantry or special forces officers in the grade of Colonel or below, as well as warrant officers with infantry or special forces MOS. The recipient must be personally present and under hostile fire while in a unit actively engaged in ground combat with the enemy.
