Lot 0259: ANTIQUE FRENCH ART NOUVEAU SIGNED TERRACOTTA BUST

41 reviews

A fine 19th century French Art Nouveau painted terracotta bust of a young American Indian woman with long hair and a headband. Titled to the base, Mignon, numbered, 317, and illegibly signed by the artist. Mignon is a character in 1866 opera Mignon created by Ambroise Thomas, which was based on Goethes 1795 novel, Wilhelm Meisters Apprenticeship. The artist is unknown but the style of the artwork seems very similar to works by the famous Art Nouveau sculptor Emmanuel Villanis, French, 1858 to 1914. Antique French Female Sculptures For Collectors And Art Nouveau Decorative Collectibles.
