Lot 0220: 1970S PERSIAN NASER AL-DIN PORCELAIN SOUP BOWL W LID

41 reviews

A fine quality vintage covered serving dish or a soup bowl, Japanese porcelain, for the Persian Market. Custom made for a wedding present in Persia, the written text is: For Houshang Talasazan. Circa 1970. Features a round body flanked by two handles and a matched lid. Skilfully hand painted with a traditional design of leaves, flowers and birds in cobalt blue overglaze highlighted with gilding and bearing oval medallions depicting portraits of Sultan Murad V - ruler of the Ottoman Turks and Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. Marked on the bottom: Imperial Fine China, Japan. Note: Murad V was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire who reigned from 30 May to 31 August 1876. The son of Abdulmejid I, he supported the conversion of the government to a constitutional monarchy. His uncle Abdulaziz had succeeded Abdulmejid to the throne and had attempted to name his own son as heir to the throne, which spurred Murad to participate in the overthrow of his uncle. However, his own frail physical and mental health caused his reign to be unstable and Murad V was deposed in favor of his half-brother Abdul Hamid II after only 93 days. Naser al-Din Shah Qajar was the Shah of Qajar Iran from 5 September 1848 to 1 May 1896 when he was assassinated. He was the son of Mohammad Shah Qajar and Malek Jahan Khanom and the third longest reigning monarch in Iranian history after Shapur II of the Sassanid dynasty and Tahmasp I of the Safavid dynasty.
