Lot 0006: RUSSIAN SOVIET LITHOGRAPH BY NATALIA GONCHAROVA

41 reviews

Natalia Sergeevna Goncharova, Russian, Soviet Era, 1881 to 1962, lithograph on wove paper, depicting an old man riding a bull, 1913, from the series of illustrations for the lithographed book by A. Kruchenykh, Hermiters Hermit, are free variations on a given theme. Signed in the plate lower left. Framed. They are not tied to the text and do not retell it by means of drawings, but freely reveal, supplement, and expand the meaning, sometimes conflicting. Fourteen illustrations were created on seven pages of poems. The parodic character of the poem is uniquely embodied in the grotesque, island-expressive images of the artist, who in this case turns out to be not just an illustrator, but a full-fledged co-author of the poet. Natalia Sergeevna Goncharova was a Russian avant garde artist, painter, costume designer, writer, illustrator, and set designer. She was a founding member of both the Jack of Diamonds, Moscows first radical independent exhibiting group, the more radical Donkeys Tail, and with Larionov invented Rayonism. She was also a member of the German based art movement Der Blaue Reiter. Her painting vastly influenced the avant garde in Russia. Russian Graphic Art Prints, and Collectibles.
