Uemura Shoen was the pseudonym of a female artist active from late Meiji Era, Taisho, and very early Showa period in Japanese painting Arts. Extremely marginalized by an all male industry, Shoen was one of the first women to start changing this mentality and went on to become one of Japan's most renowned female artists of her time.
