An antique Russian Orthodox icon, Joy to All Who Mourn, All the Sorrowful Joy, and the offended Intercessor, the hungry Nurse, the strange Consolation, the overwhelmed Shelter, the sick Visitation to the Most Holy Theotokos. These words are often placed on the icon as inscriptions over a group of people suffering from illnesses or worldly sorrows, who prayerfully fall to the Mother of God standing in full growth in the radiance of the mandorla. The mixed media icon with egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood panel. Inscribed upper to the center. Circa: 1830s to 1890s.
