Lot 0258: ANTIQUE FRENCH BOX WITH MINIATURE OF ROI DE ROME

41 reviews

An antique early 19th-century French round gilt brass trinket box with hinged lid. The lid is decorated with a hand-painted portrait of a child with a scepter and orb. The inside of the box is lined with embroidered fabric. The lid is marked Le Roi de Rome underneath the lining. Le Roi de Rome, King of Rome, was the title of Napoleon-Francois-Charles-Joseph Bonaparte, 1811 to 1832, the first legitimate son of the emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. His mother was Napoleons second wife, Marie-Louise of Habsburg-Lorraine, daughter of the Emperor of Austria. Although he never actually ruled France, Napoleon-Francois was briefly the titular Emperor of the French as Napoleon II in 1815. This was the basis for his cousin Louis Napoleon to become Napoleon III in 1852. Rare Antique Historical Collectibles, Vanity Items And Decor, Miniature Painting.
