An antique Indian miniature painting, watercolor on paper. Mughal Empire period, 18th century. The artwork depicts a Hindu subject, Krishna and the cowherds and Brahma on a picnic in the Vridavan forest. Fine detail work. Inscription in sanskrit above the picture indiactes that the artwork was a manuscript illustration. White mat, wooden frame. Krishna is a major deity in Hinduism, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. He is usually depicted with blue skin, in a crown and feather wreath. Brahma is a Hindu god referred to as the Creator, commonly depicted as a bearded man with four heads and hands seated on a bird.
