Lot 0298: JAPANESE MEIJI ERA SATSUMA PORCELAIN TABLE LAMP

An antique Japanese late Meiji era Satsuma porcelain table lamp made in the manner of Yabu Meizan. The body of the table lamp is adorned with a fluted flower petal rim, a flared cylindrical neck circumvented with raised gold medallions woven in traditional Japanese motifs, girdled with elaborately gold trims over a crackled cream white ground. The ware is made in a crackled design. The ware features four hand painted feudal figures in opulent kimonos. The image depicts one of the most performed Noh plays in Japanese theatre, Hagoromo, The Celestial Feather Mantle. The vase is adorned with decorative ring handles with bows on the sides. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export. No shade.
