Lot 0375: JAPANESE COVERED GRAPE PLIQUE A JOUR ENAMEL KOGO

41 reviews

A Japanese covered silvered and enamel kogo or box for incense. The box is enameled with polychrome images of grape vines with berries made in the Plique a Jour technique on burgundy ground. Marked or probably numbered, on the bottom. Circa: the early 20th century. A kogo is used for holding incense and historically most often at the tea ceremony, the temple, or for the small worship area in the home. The kogo is also a wonderful item of character to decorate with, in addition to placing small items in, and around the house or office.
