Inside comprises a pistol and a brass powder flask, a dagger with an ornate handle, a Holy Water bottle, a Bible, a crucifix with a blue velvet lining, a wooden mallet, two four-sided wooden stakes, three engraved brass boxes, one with rosary, one with bullets, and one with pieces of cloth which could be a Catholic relic. The lid is set with two oval medallions depicting saints. Such kits were popular in the 19th century as expensive novelties for travelers headed to Eastern Europe, where vampires were said to reside.
