Nikolai Dmitrievich Prokofiev, Russian, 1866 to 1913, a watercolor on paper painting depicting a summer river landscape with two horses. Signed in Cyrillic on the lower left. Note: Nikolai Dmitrievich Prokofiev was a Russian architect, painter and graphic artist, academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. In 1895-1897 he lived in Germany, Switzerland and northern Italy. In Zurich, he practiced with the architect Ernst, on whose order he completed the project of a large hotel for the Riviera - Hotel a Pavillon (Pegli). He made copies of the works of various masters in the Palazzo Ducale in Venice - for these works, acquired by the Academy, he was awarded the title of academician. Lived in Petersburg, and served in the economic management of the Synod. Later he served in the First Russian Insurance Company and at the Baltic Shipbuilding Plant, where he was engaged in the decoration and decoration of ships, including the battleship Alexander III, the cruiser Almaz and the imperial yacht Alexandria.
