An antique Italian marquetry tilt top occasional table. Ca. 1830s, Sorrento region. Rare piece, exhibition quality. Hand-crafted from burr walnut, exotic specimen woods and olive wood. The twelve-sided top is decorated with intricate marquetry with hand-painted accents. The six panels forming a circle depict Ancient Greek god in their chariots, with the seventh panel of Helios, the god of the Sun, placed in the center. The panels are encompassed with baroque ornaments. The top can be tilted into various positions to display the intricate marquetry decoration perfectly. The table is raised on a central obelisk-shaped pedestal that terminates in four elegant splayed legs all masterfully inlaid in foliate patterns. Collectible Antique European Furniture And Decor.
