Vintage German ceramic beer stein with an ornamented metal lid. The vessel has a figurative handle. The painted relief body represents a multi-figure scene in medieval town scenery. Inscriptions in German on top and bottom: Es zogen drei Burschen wohl uber den Rhein, bei einer Frau Wirtin, da kehrten sie ein, Three lads crossed the Rhine and stopped by an inn-keeper. The verse is a quote from a poem by Ludwig Uhland written in 1809 which became a popular folk song. Embossed marks Germany 980 10 and handwritten number 469 are on the bottom.
