Lev or Leon Samoilovich Bakst, Russian, 1866 to 1924, silkscreen on paper depicting a costume design of the Fauns for Vaslav Nijinsky for the ballet Afternoon of a Faun on the cover of the program for the Seventh Season of the Russian Ballet. It was first performed in the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on 29 May 1912. Circa 1946. Printed in Paris in a very limited edition. Signed with a facsimile signature lower right. Titled in French in print upper right. Framed. Lev Bakst, an artist, set designer, illustrator and designer, worked mainly in St. Petersburg and Paris, one of the trendsetters of European fashion for exoticism and orientalism at the beginning of the 20th century. Vaslav Nijinsky, Russian, 1889 or 1890 to 1950, was a ballet dancer and choreographer cited as the greatest male dancer of the early 20th century.
