An antique 18th-century Russian Orthodox icon representing Our Lady of Akhtyr, Mother of God praying to her Son on the Cross. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Inscription in Russian on the bottom: Here is depicted the Mircaulous Theotokos of Akhtyr that appeared on July 2nd, 1739. According to the legend, the icon appeared to the priest of the town of Akhtyrka, Russia on a hayfield. After placing it in the temple, the icon began to work miracles.
