Lot 0072: ORIENTALIST LADY PAINTING BY ALOIS BROCH C 1900

41 reviews

Alois Broch, German, Austrian, 1864 to 1937, an Oriental oil on canvas painting depicting a beautiful young woman holding a vase full of red flowers. Signed by the artist lower right. Housed in a gilt wood and gesso frame inscribed on the backside. Circa 1900. Note: Alois Broch studied Art at the University of Art, Munich. Most of his lifetime he lived and worked in Berlin, Germany. Many journeys through Europe, especially UK and Russia, allowed him to work for foreign employers. He must be seen as an Academic Painter of the late 19th century whose work includes oil portraits as well as impressions of street scenes. His style is comparable to the English Masters such as Thomas Gainsborough or Sir Joshua Reynolds as well as the German Biedermeier painters. Later works are more modern, some of them even painted with gouache. A lot of his works were printed as postcards in the first two decades of the 20th century by Kupfer and Herrmann Kunstverlag. One of a kind artwork. European Art Nouveau Fine Art And Wall Decor Collectibles.
