Edwin Howland Blashfield, American, 1848 to 1936, a colored lithograph print on paper, a printed illustration depicting Columbia holding a proclamation above her head while touching a sword to the shoulder of a doughboy who kneels at her feet, an award certificate, 1919. An inscription at the top reads, Columbia gives to her son the accolade of the new chivalry of humanity, and at the bottom it notes, Served with honor in the World War and died in the service of his country.
