Alexandre Benois, Russian, French, 1870 to 1960, mixed media, watercolor and pencil, painting, a costume design for, The Spiritual Father, depicting an Orthodox clergyman with a blue rosary, probably for the ballet, Petrushka. Titled in Russian in pencil, upper right. Circa: 1920s. Framed. Petrushka, Russian amusing scenes in four scenes, is a one act ballet in four scenes by the composer Igor Stravinsky, libretto by Alexander Benois with the participation of Stravinsky, scenery and costumes by Alexander Benois, staged by Mikhail Fokin. Created for Russian Seasons by Sergei Diaghilev, the premiere took place on June 13, 1911 in Paris, on the stage of the Chatelet Theater. Alexander Nikolaevich Benois was a Russian artist and writer, painter, graphic artist, set designer, art historian, art critic, and memoirist. The most famous representative of the Benois artistic dynasty, one of the main figures of the Silver Age; co founder along with S. P. Diaghilev, and the main ideologist of the World of Art association. One of a kind artwork.
